2.8 Million Washing Machines Being Recalled After Dangerous Exp

  • Imagine that you are standing in your laundry room folding tiny socks with your child playing next to you when your washing machine begins to vibrate, making terrible crashing noises that end in chunks of metal and plastic exploding out toward you. Then you realize that soapy water is gushing everywhere and sparks are flying because the machine is still plugged into a 240-volt outlet.

This frightening situation is becoming a horrible reality for hundreds of people, and you may need to speak with a product liability lawyer from Denena Points, PC if you are one of the people affected.

    Samsung’s Series of Unfortunate Events

South Korea’s Samsung, one of world’s largest electronics and appliance companies, is having a rough year—but not as rough as many of their customers. First they were forced to repair or replace their entire line of Galaxy Note 7s due to the battery causing fires, and then they had to issue a full recall because the devices were still exploding.

Now, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and Samsung have issued a recall notice on 2.8 million top-loading washing machines. They also seem to be exploding, but this time it is excessive vibrations causing the top of the machine to rip itself apart and fly off.

This happens mainly when the machine is using a high-speed spin setting on a large, bulky comforter or something waterproof. Samsung first issued warnings that owners should only use delicate or waterproof cycles to deal with items like these, but that was not enough.

    Recall Finally Issued

After a reported 733 incidents, Samsung finally issued a full recall that gave owners three options: You can either get a free repair with an extended warranty, a rebate toward any new washing machine of any brand—including free installation, or if the machine was bought within the last thirty days, a full refund.

The last option is a bit ridiculous considering that most retailers have thirty to ninety day return policies anyway. There have been nine injuries attributed to these explosions in addition to thousands of dollars in property damage so far. The people injured have suffered deep bruising and even a broken jaw.
