About Me
For more than 40 years, John Day has dedicated his legal career to representing injured people and their families. As founder and owner of The Law Offices of John Day, P.C., John is a Tennessee personal injury lawyer who handles serious personal injury and wrongful death cases across the state, including claims involving medical malpractice, product liability, and other negligent conduct.
John’s connection to the legal profession began long before he became an attorney. He was raised in central Wisconsin, where his father practiced law in a small community. As a child, John sometimes accompanied his father to court and saw how an attorney could make a meaningful difference for people facing difficult situations. Those early experiences influenced his decision to pursue law as a career.
John attended the University of North Carolina School of Law, graduating with honors in the top ten percent of his class and serving on the North Carolina Law Review. After law school, he began his career at a large Nashville law firm. While there, he worked with the late John T. Conners, Jr., an injury lawyer who became an important mentor. Through that experience, John found his calling representing people who had been harmed by the negligence of others.
Since beginning his practice in 1981, John has become an active leader in the Tennessee and national legal communities. He serves as the 76th President of the American College of Trial Lawyers and has previously served as President of both the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and the National Board of Trial Advocacy. John is also a member of the American Law Institute, where he has contributed to work involving the Restatement (Third) of Torts. He has been recognized by Best Lawyers\u00ae in multiple areas of law since 1993.
In addition to representing clients, John has spent decades sharing his knowledge with other lawyers. He is the author of Day on Torts: Leading Cases in Tennessee Tort Law, Tennessee Law of Civil Trial, and Tennessee Law of Wrongful Death, and a co-author of Tennessee Law of Comparative Fault. He has written more than 80 articles for legal publications and delivered hundreds of continuing legal education presentations on Tennessee tort law, civil procedure, and trial practice.
John lives in Williamson County, Tennessee, with his wife, Joy Burns Day, who is also a trial lawyer. Away from his Nashville-area law practice, John enjoys spending time with his family and getting out on the water at Tims Ford Lake, especially during the warmer months.
