She graduated Magna Cum Laude from the College of Charleston with a Bachelor of Arts in Corporate Communications and Political Science. While at the College of Charleston she was a member of various service organizations and honor societies, and she was a recipient of the Bishop Robert Smith Award. While at the University of South Carolina School of Law she served as the Senior Articles Editor for The Real Property Probate & Trust Journal and received the CALI Award in Estate Planning. She was also a member of Phi Alpha Delta.
After graduating from the University of South Carolina School of Law and before entering private practice, Melody clerked for the Honorable G. Thomas Cooper, Jr. of the Fifth Judicial Circuit of South Carolina. Melody is licensed in both North and South Carolina. Melody is Certified as a Specialist in Estate Planning and Probate Law by the South Carolina Supreme Court. Melody taught Wills, Trusts, and Probate for Paralegals at Horry Georgetown Technical College in 2006.
