She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from the University of New Orleans in August, 1985. She attended Tulane Law School, where she worked as editorial assistant to the managing editor of the Tulane Law Review in her second year. In her third year, she assisted Professor Thomas Carbonneau in editing his book on Alternative Dispute Resolution. She also served as student clinician in the Public Law Institute, where she worked to amend state legislation governing handicapped parking to add flexibilty for the handicapped. She graduated in May, 1988.
In October, 1988, Ms. Burbank was admitted to the bar, commissioned as a Notary Public, and admitted to practice in all United States District Courts located within Louisiana. For three years, she served as a judicial clerk in Second Parish Court, a New Orleans metro area court with jurisdiction over traffic, DWI (DUI), and certain civil cases.
In working as a litigator since admission to the bar in 1988, Ms. Burbank has handled many cases in the fields of personal injury and other torts, class actions, family law, misdemeanor and felony criminal cases, expungement of criminal records, and traffic-related matters. Her private practice outside of class actions was limited to traffic, personal injury, criminal, and expungement cases, pre-Katrina. Ms. Burbank also serves as special counsel to the Orleans Parish School Board. less
