He earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law School in 1985 graduating in the top five percent... moreTommy graduated cum laude from Harvard University in 1982 with a B.A. in General Studies. He earned his law degree from the University of Houston Law School in 1985 graduating in the top five percent and is a recipient of the “Order of the Barons”.
Tommy began his legal career in the tort/litigation section of Vincent & Elkins. After helping defend hospitals and physicians for several years as well as assisting in complex tobacco litigation as well as personal injury lawsuits ranging from catastrophic oilfield explosions to simple slip and falls, Tommy joined the prestigious law firm of Young, Cook, Phifer and Hampton in 1987. In 1990, Tommy was made a partner at Young & Hampton where he developed a personal injury practice, specializing in medical malpractice and premise liability. After trying to verdict several multi-million dollar medical malpractice cases, Tommy continued in 1998 as a named partner at Young, Hampton, Millard & Gillaspie where he focused on complex, multi-party litigation involving medical and pharmaceutical negligence as well as numerous other areas of personal injury.
In 1999, Tommy formed his own law firm and since then he has developed a statewide recognized expertise in trying complex personal injury lawsuits from the Plaintiff’s side. Tommy has been elected as a Fellow of both the Houston and Texas Bar Foundations, is a member of The College of The State Bar of Texas and is a Life Member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
As a deacon at Second Baptist Church in Houston Texas during the 1980’s, Tommy taught Sunday school for over 12 years. From 1988-1991, Tommy Served on the Board of Directors for 89.3 KSBJ, one of the largest non-profit Christian radio stations in the nation. In 2000, he and Julie helped start Spring Valley Fellowship, a non denominational home church in the greater Houston area. Recently, Tommy has served on the Board of Directors of Kardo Ministries, the parent organization of MotherWise, a worldwide ministry with the global mission to embrace, educate, and encourage families in absolute surrender and total abandonment to Jesus Christ. He also assists with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Memorial High School in Houston.
Tommy and his wife, Julie, have three children, Sarah Elizabeth, Samuel Paul and Stephen Daniel Gillaspie. less
